Maternity Style
Being pregnant is such a special time in a mom-to-be’s life, and what better way to document that special time than with a maternity session?
Having photos taken is a great excuse to get dressed up, feel extra beautiful for the day and celebrate the baby’s very-soon arrival! This mom did just that, and with so much style, it makes me want to be pregnant again just for the photos! HA!
The vintage feel in this photo shoot was done so well by photographer Natasha Tessier, and the mom, Lisa Woolley, did an excellent job accomplishing her vision with the clothing and accessories. I love the hats, umbrella and letter “B”. They all add that something extra to make this a perfect maternity photo shoot!
I asked Lisa about her experience and here is what she had to say…
What did you envision for your maternity photo session?
I envisioned something natural – being pregnant is one of the most beautiful and natural things women get to experience. I really wanted to have a peaceful, natural setting that really highlighted how I feel during this pregnancy.
How did you choose your photographer?
When looking for photographers, the first thing I noticed is that Natasha and I have very similar styles, and I really felt like we would be a good fit.
Did you work with the photographer to plan the session or did you leave it up to the photographer to guide you?
First, Natasha helped me decide location, feel and what I wanted the images to look like. Then we went over outfits together and decided what we were going to use. She really helped me to understand what type of attire to use in these photos. One thing she pointed out was a more fitted top which I think really helped.
How did you decide on your wardrobe for this session?
Natasha and I sat down together and went through several options. Then we went shopping!
Can you share with use where you purchased the clothing and accessories for this session?
Some of the items I already had but the rest came from the one place that makes my heart pitter patter and that is Anthropologie! I found fabulous options there!
What did you like best about your maternity session?
Natasha and I both have a huge adoration for just about anything beautiful and artistic. From fashion, decor to creating the perfect setting for my maternity shoot – I loved every part of it! I loved that we were creative gurus out in a field just having an absolute blast and making wonderful memories! Natasha really got into the session and you could see her passion throughout the entire process from start to finish. We really were a good fit!
Can you share any style tips for other moms-to-be who are planning photo sessions?
I think the most important factor is to make sure your style matches the photographer’s style. If you like their portfolio and it matches what you envision, then go for it! For maternity photos, I think it is best to wear something snug and accessories always doll up any session!
What is your favorite image from this session? And Why?
I have to pick two…I love the first image she took of me walking and holding onto my skirt. I did not even know she had started and that is what I love about it. It was very natural. The other image I love is me looking up under the umbrella. There is just a peace about me and the lighting is beautiful. I look like the most content girl in the world and that is how I feel being pregnant.
What advice would you give other moms-to-be on how to prepare and make the most of their photo session experience?
Take the time to plan out your location, attire, accessories and have them all help give the feeling you want for your session. Make sure to choose a photographer that matches your vision. I think the session needs to match your personality and how you feel about your pregnancy. I have seen fun, vibrant sessions that look just as great as the more natural scenes. I feel like I have had fun with my pregnancy by all means (as a vibrant session would elude to) but overall I feel more peaceful and natural being pregnant, and I wanted my session to reflect that.
